The next time you look in the mirror, take a good look at your hair, skin and nails – they could be trying to tell you something. Physical flaws, from hair loss to unsightly nails, could be signposts of more serious health issues.

1. HAIR

A strong, lustrous mane isn’t just attractive – it’s also a good indicator of your overall health.

Thinning hair 

Hair loss is not unusual, and could mean anything from a nutritional deficiency in vitamin D or iron, to more serious conditions such as liver diseases. If you lose more than 100 strands a day within one to two weeks, see your doctor.

Flaky scalp

A sensitive, itchy, flaky scalp can be a sign that you are putting too much stress on your body.

Patchy hair loss

Watch out if you notice coin-shaped bald spots that seem to appear overnight. Called alopecia areata, this is a symptom of autoimmune conditions such as thyroid diseases, and is usually brought on by stress.
