Salted Caramel Pavlova
Level G3, Publika Solaris Dutamas, No. 1, Jalan Dutamas 1, Kuala Lumpur
Swich Cafe is known for their unusual cakes such as their avocado cake and cempedak cake, but owner Cheng Cheng prepared her pavlova to test out her salted caramel. The pavlova itself was a sight to behold – a crispy meringue base at the bottom which was not too sweet, served with a generous sprinkle of toasted nuts, Chantilly cream and Varlhona ganache which Cheng Cheng proudly claims is the best chocolate. The finishing touch was of course a drizzle of salted caramel which made the pavlova stand out from the rest.
Banana Cake with Walnut Crumble and Salted Caramel
H-0-2 Block H, Plaza Damas, 60 Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Kuala Lumpur
This is your traditional banana cake with crunchy walnuts as a twist. We were quite taken by this cake because the saltiness on the caramel was quite apparent. It reminded us of caramel popcorn with a stronger salty taste that was quite appetising. The crunchy top made from walnut crumble and salted caramel gave the cake a different dimension and texture. The banana cake was also rich thanks to the 100 per cent banana mash.
Salted Caramel Almond Mille Crepe Cake
BG8 Happy Mansion, Jalan 17/13, Petaling Jaya
What we got was your traditional mille crepe cake with multiple thin layers topped with gooey salted caramel and crunchy almond. The crunch from the almond gave a different texture to an otherwise usual mille crepe cake, making this a crowd favourite. The multiple thin layers of the cake was smooth and velvety, filled with fresh cream. Founder Jenifer shares that her secret is to make all components in-house, from the fresh custard to whipped cream to the salted caramel.
